A walk around Stratford upon Avon butterfly park

I went to Stratford butterfly park and took some macro shots of the many butterflies bugs in there

Ambient light

It was sunny day outside. The butterflies are housed in a big greenhouse so the ambient light was quite good 

Planing  

 I took plenty of water because of the humid heat inside i got there in morning so there would be less general public , I hoped to capture a macro shot of a butterfly on a flower feeding , I was hoping to use a depth of Field and have a strong focal point using the rule of thirds aslo .

Equipment

I took my 450d camera I took 2 lenses my 50mm lens and my 60mm macro lens

I also took some magnification filters for both my lenses

I took a flash gun to help with exposure

I used my canon 450d camera

Lens Tamron 60mm lens

Equipment operation 

I used my 60 mm lens with Manuel focusing and Manuel settings I set the aperture to f/4.5 to show some depth of Field and I used a shutter speed of 1/80 any slower and I might of had camera shake with such a close up image and i used a ISO of 200 to help with the Exposure . I got close up quietly so not to scare the butterfly off  and moved up close and metered onto the butterfly's head .

Risk and Health and safety

 I was careful not to use a tripod in case of the public tripping on it and falling

I took plenty of water because of the humidity 

I was careful of the butterflies on the floor there was one or two dead butterfly's that had been stepped on by the unaware public

I took a few different compositions of this butterfly

Slightly over exposed and a standard composition

Conclusion

 I picked this image because of the rule of thirds and the tonal range and depth of Field

 and detail and sharpness of the butterfly and flower .

I took the original image into photoshop and made a slight crop and slightly sharped the image .

The original image was cropped to improve the photo cropped to 300 dpi

Using the crop tool you can select the best area of a photo

After i had finished I put a simple black and white border to enhance the image and bring out the colours and detail and tones of the butterfly

Location   Bridge Of Sighs (The Hertford Bridge) oxford

The most photographed piece of architecture in Oxford, it actually bears closer resemblance to the Rialto Bridge in Venice . The Hertford Bridge in New College Lane, Oxford, England is often referred to as the "Bridge of Sighs" because of its supposed similarity to the famous bridge of the same name in Venice. However, Hertford Bridge was never intended to be a replica of the Venetian bridge and many believe it looks more similar to the Rialto Bridge in the same city. The bridge links together the Old and New Quadrangles of Hertford College. The bridge, and much of its current architecture, was designed by Sir Thomas Jackson. It was Constructed in 1913/1914 .

Planing - I went to oxford with a few lenses my 50mm lens and my 18-55 mm lens so i had the option of different composition and different apertures
I hoped to shoot the architecture of oxford with all its beauty capturing the shapes and texture of the buildings

Light - As i took this photo it was getting dark and it was a cloudy day so the ambient light was quite poor

Image - Its a evening in oxford its not to long to dusk and the street lights have come on

FROM PILLAR TO POST

This was took at leamington spa

Its the Royal pump rooms they where designed and built by C.S.Smith

 of Warwick at a reputed cost of £30,000 and opened in July 1814

I took this shot with a tripod and used the self timer

I took at a angle looking down the street i used a my lens at 18mm

to get in all of the pillars from end to end and top to bottom .

This is the old railway bridge at stratford upon Avon Stannals Bridge

This used to be the route of the Great Western Railway between Stratford and Cheltenham

I wanted to get close up and show the texture of the bridge

I took it at a angel to get a different composition to a normal one

TUDOR VIEW

I took this  photo of Hall's Croft it was home to Shakespeare's eldest daughter Susanna

 and her husband Dr John Hall before they moved to New Place on Shakespeare's death.

               Built in 1613 it is an impressive piece of architecture showing the wealth of the owners

I took many photos of the hall including this close up of the woodwork

I wanted to show another park of architecture the great skill of the Tudor craftsmen

This is the Warwickshire Justice Centre in Leamington Spa

Its a very new building and it was officially opened in opened in August 2010

I took it with a tripod and I wanted to take it from a abnormal perspective

TWILIGHT STUDY

The entrance to the Bodleian Library

The bronze statue is the Earl of Pembroke one time

Chancellor of Oxford University

 The Bodleian library is one of the oldest libraries in Europe

 and is the 2nd largest library in the UK

in its current incarnation, has a continuous history dating back to 1602

I wanted to show the library with the Earl in front i took it from angle to show

the great window and lines and texture of the walls.

This is was took at Warwick its Lord Leycester hospital 

 its a one of a few building that survived the great fire of Warwick in 1694

 The building it self can be dated back as far as 1126 it was

built by Roger de Newburgh

I took my shot at night I used my camera handheld using

 the floor to help steady my camera for the 2 sec shutter speed

This is two building the building on right is the Radcliffe Camera 

designed by james gibbs in the English palladian style and

 built in 1737–1749 to house the radcliffe science museum

and the build in the far ground is All Souls College is one

 of the constituent colleges of the university of oxford

The College was founded by Henry VI in 1438

I wanted to capture two beautiful building together

I wanted to capture the light and reflections in the window

and also the texture and shapes of the brick work .

Statement of Intent Theme two Architectural

Intentions

For this them i have chose to photography architectural

I like Tudor buildings and old buildings and there are many in warwickshire area
I hope to capture some images from when I visits and the towns around me

Reason for theme

I have chosen the theme of architecture because i have not really done it before in much detail and I'm
curious if i can capture 10 good images , I hope to capture the details and beauty of the architecture i come across in my local area .

Equipment

Canon 450d
Canon 18-55mm lens i will use this lens manly in the wide angle 18mm to capture the whole of a building
Canon 28-70mm lens to get closer detail and equality of image
Canon 50mm to get a more quality shot
Tripod or monopod for poor light and darkness . A tripod is a great help for using slower shutter speeds

Lighting

I will hopefully use ambient light manly trying to capture the sun and shadows on the buildings i come across
A tripod or monopod will help and can be used at night fall to help with exposure

Health and safety

Keeping equipment dry
Do not run with your camera
Be careful of ice and slippy surfaces
If using a tripod make sure it is stable
When changing lenses be careful of getting dust or water into your lens or camera

Macro

Intentions
I will try and capture close up in nature from a water droplet to a butterfly , what ever i come across
i hope to get close up and capture the beauty we miss with the naked eye .

Reason for this Theme

I luv macro because you never know what your gonna get till you look through the view finder
I'm always curious how a photo will come out after you have took it ,some times you see more than you even saw through the view finder capturing hidden worlds .

Equipment

Canon 450d
canon 50mm f/1.8  lens  . Used with close up filters you can get surprising results
Tamron 60mm Macro lens .
Tripod  . To help with poor light
Flashgun . To help with getting a better exposure
hot shoe lead .To help with changing the direction of the light on a subject

Techniques

I will use just my natural techniques of just getting up close with the subject and trying to get the best composition to show the subject to its best
Using the best manual setting for the natural light around me and using a steady hand to get sharp detail
Post production will be using cs4

Lighting

As with macro photography ambient light can decrease the closer you get to a subject so i will balance the  ISO with the shutter speed and aperture to try and get a good exposure
I will use my on board flash to help with exposure and my flash gun .

Health and safety

Be wary as you look though a view finder you do not always no where you are stepping so always be careful where your next step is taken

The thing about macro is you can take anywhere so i have to get some photos most times i go out

Some of the places i will go to is to local parks where there are gardens with plants and insects around

Beacon park Lichfeild

A park with some small gardens with flowers and plants
The gardens are usually quite empty so you can spend time taking photo of a leaf or a flower

St nicholas park  /Warwick

The park has some small fishing ponds with a river so might be some opportunities for photography
The gardens are usually quite empty so you can spend time taking photo of a year

Stratford upon Avon / Butterfly park

Stratford has a river Avon running through it and has plants and small wildlife along it

The butterfly park has many butterflies in it with other insects in glass cabinets
Because its indoors you can go any time of year and it will be warm and humid inside for the tropical butterfly's
also the butterfly's are all around you as you walk round so you have always got a shot to take

Sutton park

2,400 acres of heartlands , marshes , lakes and ancient woodlands
so there must be many macro shots just waiting to be found .
My back garden

You can find many macro photos in just a small garden if its just abit of grass a small plant in the garden
because its just a few feet away i can just take some shots for half hour and get maybe a good shots
with different weather from frost to rain you never know what macro photo you mite get .

By added some close up filter to this lens it is a great little macro lens that's light and easy and to take close up when your out on location , before i got a macro lens this summer i used it for all my macro shots and got some good results .

CLOSE UP FILTERS
I have used this for close up shots before using a set of macro filters i was surprise with the result
and is my favourite ways to take macro shots

	A TRIPOD
	I Dont use my tripod mush for loaction macro work but i may use a tripod to get a sharper image and to  help with exposure
	A FLASH GUN I have the jessops 360 AFD I could use it to help with exposure and sharpness with macro photography you are using smaller apertures so that extra boost of light can make all the difference . A SYNC CORD Perhaps the simplest way to get your flash off the camera, a sync cord fits on your camera’s hotshoe at one end, and via a length of coiled cable provides a mount for your flashgun at the other end. Hopefully are be able to capture my 10 macro shots using my equipment .
